An example of where a vector is used in Excel is in the LOOKUP function.
This function has two forms:
- the vector form which is used for ranges that are a single column or row in size
- the array form which is used for ranges that contain multiple columns or rows (multiple vectors)
The vector form of the LOOKUP function searches a single row or column for a specified value and then return a value from the same position in a second row or column.
An analogy for a vector and array would be that of a sentence and a paragraph.
A vector would be equivalent to a single sentence while an array would be equivalent to a paragraph, which is usually composed of multiple sentences.
