This Excel tip shows you how to add the current time to an Excel spreadsheet using a keyboard shortcut.
Adding the Current Time using a Keyboard Shortcut
- Click on the cell where you want the time to go.
- Press and hold down the Ctrl and the Shift keys on the keyboard.
- Press and release the colon key ( : ) on the keyboard without releasing the Ctrl and Shift keys.
- The current time will be added to the spreadsheet.
Note: This keyboard shortcut does not use a function such as the TODAY function to add the time to the spreadsheet.
