This Excel tip shows you how to add the current date to an Excel spreadsheet using a keyboard shortcut.
Adding the Current Date using a Keyboard Shortcut
- Click on the cell where you want the date to go.
- Press and hold down the Ctrl key on the keyboard.
- Press and release the semi colon key ( ; ) on the keyboard without releasing the Ctrl key.
- The current date will be added to the spreadsheet.
Note: This keyboard shortcut does not use a function such as the TODAY function to add the date to the spreadsheet.
