This Excel tip shows you how to add the current date to an Excel spreadsheet using a keyboard shortcut.

Adding the Current Date using a Keyboard Shortcut

  1. Click on the cell where you want the date to go.

  2. Press and hold down the Ctrl key on the keyboard.

  3. Press and release the semi colon key ( ; ) on the keyboard without releasing the Ctrl key.

  4. The current date will be added to the spreadsheet.

Note: This keyboard shortcut does not use a function such as the TODAY function to add the date to the spreadsheet.
