Definition:

In Excel, shading involves changing the background color a cell or group of cells.

Shading is a formatting feature used to improve the appearance of your spreadsheet. It can also make it easier to find and read specific data.

Shading is often added to a title or to specific cells containing the results of formulas.

It is also added to alternate rows in large spreadsheets to make it easier to read long rows of data.
