Note: This article gives instructions for copying the sample data shown below into an Excel worksheet.

The data accompanies the Excel 2010 Format Tutorial.

Use Copy and Paste Special to Transfer Tutorial Data

  1. Drag select the data in the table below to highlight all of it. Be sure to select the entire table.

  2. Choose Edit > Copy from the menu in your web browser.

  3. Open Excel 2010.

  4. Click on cell A2 in the worksheet to make it the active cell.

  5. Click on the Home tab.

  6. Click on the down arrow below the Paste button on the ribbon to open the drop down menu.

  7. Choose Paste Special from the menu to open the Paste Special dialog box.

  8. Choose Paste as Text from the options in the dialog box.

Each piece of data should be pasted into a separate cell in the worksheet. The data should fill the range A2 to F11.

If your data does not end up in cells A2 to F11 it probably means you didn't use Paste Special correctly. Use Excel's Undo feature to remove the data and then try steps 4 to 8 above again.

Note: The dollar signs ( $ ) located in the Deduction formulas in the table below are used to indicate absolute cell references rather than currency formatting.
