A context menu - short for contextual menu - is a menu of excel options that changes depending on the situation or context in which it was activated.
It is also known as a right-click menu because it is most often activated by right clicking on an object - such as a worksheet cell or chart.
The options in the context menu relate to the object clicked on.
For example, if the context menu for a cell is activated, the options in the menu will include cell formatting options, cut, copy, and paste, and insert and delete cell options.
If a chart is right clicked on, the context menu options include changing the chart type, moving the chart, and formatting the chart area.
Other context menus include those for rows and columns which are activated by right clicking on a row header or a column header.
Context menus can also be activated using the keyboard shortcut Shift + F10.
