It’s a good practice to add the current date to a spreadsheet when it is created or updated.

You could just type the date into a cell, or, if you desire more flexibility, you can use the TODAY function, which is one of Excel's date functions.

This is a very useful function as it saves the user from typing the date in each time he/she opens the spreadsheet. You could also mention that it can be used as a validation rule as well, for example if you did not want a date higher than the current written ‘
